Getting back to basics… What being a business owner is all about.

by She Will Shine on 18-10-2013 in The Journey, Small Business

Too often we get caught up in the day to day running of our business that we lose sight of the big picture. Here are 5 facts to put you and your business back on track.

1. It's about belief.
You're a business owner and you have a vision for you business. You have a direction you're heading in and a goal you're working towards. It's not easy and yes there can be set-backs, but don't dwell on it. Do something about it. Remove what's not working from the equation and step back and see what is working. Focus on the positive and work with it. Evolve your business, and most importantly believe in it.

2. It's about support.
Being a sole business owner is a tough job, and it can get lonely. You need to find people who will support you and your business. A group of fellow like-minded women in business is ideal (and you might even be on the right website!!). As you want them to succeed, they want the same for you. What you don't want is people who are going to bring you down and be competitive. Support groups are all about helping each other to be the very best you can be, and the same goes for business. It's a true “win win” for all.

3. It's about service.
Small business owners are able to connect on a personal level to their clients. This is where the big guys lose out. It's your authenticity and trustworthiness that we as potential clients are craving for. We want amazingly great service and we know we can't get it from a faceless company we found on Google. If I feel like you know me, you know my needs, you know how to fulfil those needs and you are going to value our relationship, I would love to do business with you.

4. It's about making friends.
Choosing someone to do business with is like making friends, the most successful relationships form with like-minded people. And how do we form these relationships? Yes, we can make connections via social media, but it's meeting face to face that makes all the difference. Networking plays a huge role here. Don't get me wrong, it can feel daunting to begin with but if you find the right networks it actually is a lot of fun. I've met other women in business at networking events and it feels like we've been friends for years. We have so much in common, and yes we talk business but we may talk about personal stuff too. As a woman in business one is never far from the other.

5. It's all about YOU.
You are your brand. And I want to get to know you. I want to know who I am giving my hard-earned money to. I want to know you're real. I want to know your values. I want to know your vision. And I want to be a part of that vision.
